ENC 1101. FRESHMAN COMPOSITION I.

FRESHMAN COMPOSITION I Prerequisites: Score of 103 on writing component of PERT or equivalent score on other state-approved entry test or minimum grade of C in ENC 0027 or minimum grade of C EAP 1640C, and a score of 106 on reading component of PERT or equivalent score on other state-approved entry test or minimum grade of C EAP 1620C. This course introduces students to rhetorical concepts and audience-centered approaches to writing including composing processes, language conventions and style, and critical analysis and engagement with written texts and other forms of communication. A minimum grade of C is required if used to satisfy the Gordon Rule and general education requirements.

Continuing the grammar and mechanics study begun in ENC 1101. 2. Writing of persuasive essays, narrations, descriptions, or analyses, and writing about literature. 3. Editing and revising essays. 4. Research techniques.

TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION Prerequisite: ENC 1101 or 1101H. Emphasis on clear, simple and precise English. Writing of business letters, office memos, technical reports, proposals and recommendations. Practice in collecting and organizing data and preparing report formats. Includes oral reports and interview techniques.
