U.S. GOVERNMENT
In this course, students will investigate how the national government is structured and how the American constitutional republic operates. It covers the philosophical and historical foundations of American government, including but not limited to the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution and all its amendments, and the Federalist Papers. The course examines the branches of government and the government’s laws, policies, and programs. It also examines the ways in which citizens participate in their government and ways their government responds to citizens. Gordon Rule course which requires demonstration of college level writing skills through multiple assignments. Minimum grade of C required if used to satisfy Gordon Rule requirement.

STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT
This course provides a systematic introduction to the principles and institutions of American state and local government, with some emphasis on Florida politics. It delves into the structure, functions, and decision-making processes of the 50 states, including instruction on associated founding documents, and the more than 85,000 localities (governments) within those states. This course focuses on 1) the structure of state and local governments, 2) the social and political influences on states and local governments, and 3) the dynamics of administrative processes.

INTERNSHIP IN CIVIC LEADERSHIP
Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of mandated courses in reading, mathematics, English, and English for Academic Purposes; a 2.5 institutional or overall GPA; and 12 credits, including completion of any college-level course (preferably an INR or POS course).
This course is a planned work-based experience that provides students with supervised career exploration activities and/or practical experience related to their career objectives. Multiple credit course. Each credit hour of internship requires a minimum of 80 clock hours of work. May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 4 credits, but grade forgiveness cannot be applied. (Internship Fee: $10.00).

Prerequisites: Satisfactory completion of all mandated courses in Reading, Mathematics, English and English for Academic Purposes; a minimum 2.0 institutional or overall GPA; and 12 credits, including POS 2041.
The Program Director/Program Chair/Program Coordinator or Internship Placement Office has the discretion to provide override approval as it relates to the waiver of required program/discipline-related courses.
