SSE: Social Science Education

TEACHING SOCIAL STUDIES Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in RED 4352 or department approval. This course provides Florida Educator Accomplished Practices-aligned knowledge and skills for prospective teachers and teachers in Elementary Education K-6 social studies. It focuses on elementary-level social studies content, state and NCSS social studies standards, instructional and assessment strategies, designing social studies curriculum and lesson plans, and using data to inform instruction and improvements. This course addresses elementary pedagogical content knowledge for teaching the strands in the Florida Standards for Social Studies and the Elementary Education K-6 Florida Teacher Certification Examination competencies in Social Studies.
