PLANT DIVERSITY An overview of the biological diversity of modern algae and land plants, the traditional classification of plants, the evolutionary processes that generate biodiversity and the ecological processes that shape this diversity. In the laboratory students will see examples of the species we discuss in class and learn to identify key traits and species.

PLANT PHYSIOLOGY Study of vital phenomena in plants. Concerns processes and functions, responses of plants to changes in environment, and growth and development that results from responses. Laboratory experiences make application to biological concepts and to practical aspects of all phases and areas of horticulture. (Special Fee: $82.00).

ETHNOBOTANY The course will emphasize the role of plants in the development of civilization, and the influence of plants on world history, politics, economics and culture. A survey of useful and harmful plants and plant products from various cultures from around the world will be explored. Students should be able to complete college level reading, writing, and mathematics assignments as part of this course.
