MGF 1106. LIBERAL ARTS MATHEMATICS I.

330

LIBERAL ARTS MATHEMATICS I Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in MAT 0018C or higher or appropriate score on an approved assessment. Topics include systematic counting, probability, statistics, geometry, sets, logic, and the history of mathematics. Minimum grade of C required if MGF 1106 is used to satisfy Gordon Rule and general education requirements. Credit may not be given for both MGF1106 and MGF2106 nor for MGF1106 and MGF2202.

MGF 1106H. LIBERAL ARTS MATHEMATICS I - HONORS.

330

LIBERAL ARTS MATHEMATICS I - HONORS Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in MAT 0018C or higher or appropriate score on an approved assessment. Topics include systematic counting, probability, statistics, geometry, sets, logic, and the history of mathematics. Minimum grade of C required if MGF1106 is used to satisfy Gordon Rule and general education requirements. Credit may not be given for both MGF1106 and MGF2106 nor for MGF1106 and MGF2202. In addition, course content will satisfy one Honors Program learning outcome. Honors Program permission required.

MGF 1107. LIBERAL ARTS MATHEMATICS II.

330

LIBERAL ARTS MATHEMATICS II Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in MAT 1033C or MAC 1105 or MGF 1106 or STA 2023 or appropriate score on an approved assessment. This course covers topics chosen from numeration and mathematical systems, elementary number theory, linear and exponential growth, financial mathematics, voting and apportionment, graph theory, geometric transformations, history of mathematics in the context of selected topics, connections to other disciplines, and other special topics in mathematics. Minimum grade of C required if course is used to satisfy Gordon Rule and general education requirements.

MGF 1130. MATHEMATICAL THINKING.

330

MATHEMATICAL THINKING Prerequisite: Appropriate score on an approved assessment or per current state mandates In this course, students will utilize multiple means of problem solving through student-centered mathematical exploration. The course is designed to teach students to think more effectively and increase their problem-solving ability through practical application and divergent thinking. This course is appropriate for students in a wide range of disciplines/programs. Minimum grade of C required if MGF 1130 is used to satisfy Gordon Rule and general education requirements.

MGF 1130H. MATHEMATICAL THINKING - HONORS.

330

MATHEMATICAL THINKING - HONORS Same as MGF 1130 with Honors content. Honors program permission required.

MGF 1131. MATHEMATICS IN CONTEXT.

330

MATHEMATICS IN CONTEXT Prerequisite: Appropriate score on an approved assessment or per current state mandates Through this course, students will explore practical applications of mathematics in a variety of contextual situations. The course is designed for a wide range of disciplines/programs by engaging students in topics such as data modeling, personal finance, statistics, probability and counting methods. Minimum grade of C required if MGF 1131 is used to satisfy Gordon Rule and general education requirements.
