Graduation Requirements

Responsibility for meeting graduation requirements rests with the student. To be awarded a degree from Valencia College, a student must have an active student record and satisfy all applicable program, credit, and institutional requirements outlined below. Graduation requirements may vary by degree type. Additional program-specific requirements are published with each degree program in this Catalog.

To graduate from Valencia College, students must:

  • Complete the prescribed course of study for the declared degree and program, including all required General Education coursework
  • Complete all applicable Gordon Rule requirements with a grade of C or higher
  • Earn a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA in:
    • All Valencia coursework (Institutional GPA)
    • All coursework attempted (Overall GPA)
  • Satisfy the Civic Literacy Requirement
  • Complete at least 25% of required college-level credits at Valencia College
  • Satisfy the foreign language proficiency requirement, where required by the degree program
    • This requirement applies only to Associate in Arts, Specialized Associate in Arts Transfer, and bachelor’s degree programs. It does not apply to Associate in Science degree programs.
  • Have all final grades and degree requirements on file prior to degree posting

Credit Limitations

Within the total credit requirements for a degree, the following maximums apply, as permitted by program requirements:

  • Up to 6 credits in music ensembles and/or physical education activity courses
  • Up to 12 credits in college-level English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
  • Up to 4 credits in internship coursework
  • Up to 45 credits from alternative award of credit mechanisms (e.g., AP, CLEP, DSST, IB, experiential learning)

Graduation Application Requirement

Students must submit a Graduation Application by the Priority Deadline listed in the Academic Calendar. At the time of application, students must:

  • Have completed or be registered for all required coursework
  • Meet all GPA and institutional requirements

Failure to apply by the published deadline may delay degree posting.

Degree Conferral

Valencia College awards degrees at the end of each Fall, Spring, and Summer Full Term. Commencement ceremonies are held annually at the conclusion of the Fall and Spring Terms. Summer Graduates are invited to the Fall commencement ceremony.
