State Board of Education Rule 6A-10.030 (previously Gordon Rule)
Overview
State Board of Education Rule (SBOE) 6A-10.030, previously known as the Gordon Rule, measures student achievement in college-level communication and computation skills through the successful completion of coursework in English and mathematics.
Students must complete—with grades of C or better —the following requirements before a student earns an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree from Valencia College and before entering upper-level courses at a Florida public university or college.
- Twelve (12) credits in designated courses that demonstrate college-level writing skills through multiple assignments; and
- Six (6) credits of mathematics coursework at the level of college algebra or higher, including Mathematical Thinking in Context courses.
Students who have not earned an A.A. must complete prior to being admitted to a Bachelor's degree program.
Students will complete 12 credits of the following Communications and Social Sciences courses with a grade of C or better to meet the writing requirement.
Students will complete 6 credits of the following Mathematics courses with a grade of C or better.
