2026-27 Catalog

Governing Catalog

Purpose

The Catalog is the official document that describes Valencia College's policies, academic programs, and student requirements. Students are responsible for following the policies and requirements outlined in the Catalog governing their enrollment.

Governing Catalog Term

A student's governing Catalog is the Catalog in effect at the time the student is admitted or readmitted to the College, or when the student changes their program of study (major). For students enrolled in limited-access programs, the governing Catalog is the one in effect at the time of their program admittance. Students must follow the policies and graduation requirements of their governing Catalog unless changes are required by law or mandated by the District Board of Trustees.

The student's governing Catalog is valid for five academic years, provided the student maintains continuous enrollment, as defined by the College. Students who do not complete their program requirements within this five‑year period will have their governing Catalog updated to the most current Catalog, and their program of study may be changed to non‑degree seeking (Personal Interest).

Governing Catalog Changes

The governing catalog will be updated to the most recent Catalog in certain situations.

  • Program or catalog term changes: The governing Catalog will be updated to the catalog in effect at the time of the program or catalog term change. Students may select programs that are active within the Catalog in effect at that time and must follow all associated program and graduation requirements. If a student adds a second degree or certificate, their primary program will remain under the governing Catalog until it expires.
  • Limited-access program admission requirements change: Students who experience a change in limited-access program admissions requirements within their five‑year catalog period while in pending status, or who have applied to a limited-access program, will qualify for a transition plan to the new requirements.
  • Expired governing catalog: The new governing Catalog will be the one in effect during their next term of enrollment if the student's governing catalog has expired. The student's program of study may be changed to non‑degree seeking (Personal Interest).

Catalog Updates

The College expects mid‑year revisions to be limited. However, in rare instances, mid-year changes to the Catalog may be necessary. If the District Board of Trustees approves program requirement changes during the academic year, the updated requirements will be published in the current Catalog and made available through academic and Advising departments.
