Dual Enrollment Admission

Dual Enrollment allows eligible students in grades 6–12 to enroll in Valencia College courses and earn college credit while satisfying high school graduation requirements. Students may attend public or private schools or participate in a home education program. Additional requirements may apply for private and home education students.

Eligibility and Admission

School counselors (or parents, for home education students) identify students who demonstrate academic readiness, social maturity, and motivation for college-level work. Minimum requirements include:

  • A cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • College-ready placement scores in reading, writing, and mathematics (ACT, PERT, or SAT)

Coursework and Enrollment

Dual Enrollment students may register for college-level courses at a Valencia campus, online, and/or at their high school (as applicable). Courses may be scheduled before, during, or after school hours, including the Summer Term.

The following course types are not eligible for Dual Enrollment:

  • Developmental education courses
  • Physical education activity courses
  • Courses carrying fewer than three credits
  • Courses in the Fall and Spring, H1, and H2 parts-of-term

Tuition, Fees, and Instructional Materials

Dual Enrollment students are exempt from application, matriculation, and laboratory fees.

  • Public school students: Textbooks and required instructional materials are provided by the school district.
  • Home education and private school students: Required instructional materials are provided by Valencia College using State Dual Enrollment Scholarship funds.

Credit and Transcript Requirements

  • High school credit for Dual Enrollment coursework is awarded by the student’s high school.
  • College credit is awarded by Valencia College and recorded on the student’s college transcript.
  • In accordance with Florida Statute, students must submit an official final high school transcript with graduation date before an official Valencia transcript can be released and before becoming degree-seeking.

Enrollment After High School Graduation

Active Dual Enrollment students are reclassified to Personal Interest during the term of high school graduation to allow Summer registration prior to receipt of the diploma.

Dual Enrollment fee waivers do not apply after high school graduation or for Summer courses ending after graduation. Students are responsible for all tuition and fees for post-graduation enrollment.

To become degree-seeking after graduation, students must submit a final high school transcript showing graduation date. Students are classified as non-Florida residents until a Florida Residency Declaration with supporting documentation is submitted. When applicable, students must also complete the FAFSA. International Dual Enrollment students must meet the admission requirements for international students.

Students completing a Valencia College degree simultaneously with high school graduation will have Valencia degree requirements determined based on the term of initial Dual Enrollment participation.
