New Student Experience
Welcome! Valencia wants all new college students to start right as they begin their educational journey. As a result, first time in college students enrolled in an Associate in Arts degree program may complete the SLS 1122 NEW STUDENT EXPERIENCE course. This course, or equivalent, assists students in developing a sense of purpose for being in college, a plan for moving through their program of study, a pathway toward their career goals. It also helps students prepare for their coursework, develop clear personal connections, as well as understanding the places available for support.
Many Associate in Science degree programs have also adopted SLS 1122 NEW STUDENT EXPERIENCE as a course in the program. Many Associate in Science degree programs have infused the New Student Experience outcomes into a course early in their degree. These degree programs include:
- Construction and Civil Engineering Technology (A.S.) – Requires ETD 1031C INTRODUCTION TO THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT
- Cardiovascular Technology (A.S.) –HSC 1004 INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH PROFESSIONS highly recommended

- Diagnostic Medical Sonography (A.S.) – HSC 1004 INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH PROFESSIONS highly recommended
